Erica designed this award-winning home to be a modern farmhouse: stylish yet comfortable, filled with natural textures, beams, stone, and a timeless black-and-white palette. Beyond the architecture, the clients wanted an interior that felt personal. Each room needed to reflect their lifestyle – entertaining with ease, showcasing travel memories, and creating spaces for family and guests to feel at home. With that vision, Erica layered in thoughtful details, unique finishes, and plenty of character to bring their modern farmhouse to life.
Erica shared, “The flooring is actually a laminate which holds up to their active lifestyle of hosting friends and family as well as their dogs. It looks like real wood to the naked eye. We also chose performance fabrics where necessary.”
A Kitchen Meant for Gathering
For a client who loves to cook, Erica created a kitchen that’s highly functional and flows well with the home’s open-concept design. A statement backsplash steals the show, running all the way to the ceiling along a large window. Even with lower ceilings, she created a seamless transition into the great room so the kitchen feels expansive and welcoming.
A Fireplace That Anchors the Home
The main living space deserved a striking centerpiece. Floor-to-ceiling stone on the fireplace and rustic beams overhead add warmth and texture, while oversized lighting ties the room together. It’s a cozy, elegant space designed for gathering.
A Workspace with Character
This space was designed to showcase the client’s travel mementos, records, and meaningful art. Erica shared, “The client had artwork that was central to the room so we had to make sure it felt like it belonged.” She leaned into a more masculine style by color drenching the room in the same deep tone as the cabinetry and layering in panel molding for rich texture and interest.
A Primary Retreat
For the primary bedroom and bath, Erica kept the palette neutral and soothing. Vertical shiplap, wood beams, and soft textiles in the bedroom create a calming backdrop, while the bathroom feels spa-like with a chandelier over the tub and tile that’s as practical as it is beautiful. Erica revealed, “The tile in the shower looks like marble but it’s actually porcelain. I love the pattern accent tile on the wall.” The accent wall tile adds just the right touch of pattern and luxury.
Themed Guest Rooms
Inspired by the clients’ love of travel, the guest suites each carry a distinct theme, offering guests the feeling of escaping to a unique destination. The Mountain Room features textured shiplap, a leather bed, and window treatments trimmed with a cowhide pattern for a rustic yet refined feel.
The Beach Room exhibits a softer coastal style without being too literal, complete with the client’s unique artwork framed from lobster traps and airy, textured finishes.
Design Choices That Tell a Story
This modern farmhouse strikes the perfect balance: timeless, functional, and deeply personal. Performance fabrics, durable laminate flooring that mimics real wood, and smart storage solutions ensure the home is as livable as it is beautiful. With layers of texture, travel-inspired details, and thoughtful finishes, it’s a home designed for living well and hosting often.
